COMMUNITY OUTREACH
The annual Ribbon Festival benefits children in the Montrose community and is open to hundreds of students. This includes the music students taught by members of MMTA. The Dr. Martha Violett (Western Colorado University) concert was held at no cost to community members, with a donation offering available. The number of people attending from the community was quite significant.
One of the teachers has developed a harp trio with flute in some songs. These students have been playing in three different nursing and assisted living homes every month. They have played as a harp ensemble at both Beaconfests, a senior fair, in Grand Junction and Montrose. In December they played live concerts with audiences for Christmas in Grand Junction, Delta, Cedaredge and Montrose. This past Mothers’ Day 9 of this group played a concert with harps and hammer dulcimers. They will host a Harp Retreat in Montrose in June for the Colorado Celtic Harp Society. Some members will come from Denver. This teacher reports that though she lost about a third of her students, the rest of them are going strong, have stayed healthy, and have a heart to serve the community.
